The man in the video is alleged to be Rana Biswas, a former student leader of the Trinamool Chhatra Parishad (TMCP), the student wing of the Trinamool Congress.

According to reports, Rana Biswas passed out from Bhairab Ganguly College nearly a decade ago. It has also been reported that his mother is currently a councillor in Kamarhati Municipality. The authenticity of the video has not yet been independently verified by Taaza TV. Despite the circulation of the clip and rising criticism, the college authorities have not issued any official statement regarding the incident or its context.

The BJP and Left Front have criticized the Trinamool Congress over the video, questioning the conduct seen during a college fest. The Trinamool Congress, in response, stated that some level of entertainment during college festivals is normal and the matter should not be treated with undue seriousness.
